Tuesday, September 7th, 2010-Day 5-Phys.Ed

Morning Routine:

*      (Before GR)Write in journals

*      (After GR) Calendar, Weather, Daily Review Packets, Count number of days we’ve been in school using money and Roman numerals, Trivia question, Pledge of Allegiance

Language Arts

Objectives:

*      Spell words with short a/short i

*      Sort words according to their vowel sounds

*      Identify questions, commands, exclamations, and statements

Materials:  Pre-test papers, spelling note cards, overhead-4 types of sentences, laminated keyboards, Decodable Readers, 4 kinds of sentences in envelopes

Standards:  1.1.C.1, 1.1.C.5, 1.1.E, 1.5.F.1, 1.6.D.2, 1.5.F.2, 1.5.F.3

*      Spelling pre-test (if child receives 100% on pre-test, he/she will move to the challenge list)

*   has,wag,bad,sat,had,fix,him,if,six,will,can,hit,blue,even,study

*      Spelling-Word sort-Use note cards to sort into three categories-cat, pig, oddballs

*      Oral Vocabulary

*      Grammar-Introduce 4 types of sentences-statements, questions, commands, exclamations-show examples of each on overhead.

*      Centers-Break into three groups (20 mins./group-rotate)

*   Spelling (ME)-Decodable Readers-“Kids Can Go”

*   Spelling (Linda)-Give students a spelling word.  They use their keyboards to key the letters to each word.

*   Grammar (Independent)-Sorting 4 kinds of sentences

Math

Objectives:

*      To identify the place value of two-digit numbers

Materials:  Workmat (Tens,Ones), base-ten blocks

NCTM Standards:  1,6,7,8,9,10

*      MadMinutes

*      Flashcards

*      Lesson 1.3-Work in groups of two to model two-digit numbers with base-ten blocks

*      Examples-Find value of digits-either tens or ones

*      Page 7,8 in BIG books

Science

Objectives:

*      Identify living and nonliving things.

*      Explain why plants are living things and describe their parts.

Materials: 2 plants, tin foil, white paper

National Standards:  23,24,25,26,27,47,51,56,59,77,89,90,93,94

*      Introduction-Look at picture on page 22 and discuss what things in the pictures are alive and what is nonliving-record on paper.

*      Show students 2 of the same plants-cover the leaves of one with foil-water

both and keep in sunny place for one week.

*      Read pages 24-27 together

*      Conclusion-Each child draws a picture of a plant, label parts and discuss how each part helps plant survive.

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010-Day 6-Library

Morning Routine:

*      (Before GR)Write in journals

*      (After GR) Calendar, Weather, Daily Review Packets, Count number of days we’ve been in school using money and Roman numerals, Trivia question, Pledge of Allegiance

Language Arts

Objectives:

*      Identify which word does not have the same sound

*      Define vocabulary words

*      Use a dictionary

*      Listen to a story on CD

*      Use a computer

Materials:  whiteboards, markers, erasers, “David’s New Friends” Vocabulary Power Point, dictionaries, vocabulary cards, white paper, “David’s New Friends” CD, bring up websites on computers

Standards:  1.6.D.2, 1.1.C.7, 1.1.C.6, 1.1.C.12, 1.1.E, 1.1.B, 1.1.D.1, 1.1.H.5

*      Phonics (whiteboards, markers, erasers)-Give 3 words orally, students identify which does not have same sound, practice sounding out words with short a/short i, spell words using small letter cards

*      Oral Vocabulary

*      Vocabulary-Introduce new words using Power Point

*   tomorrow, different, groan, excited, carefully, whisper

*      Vocabulary-Read, “School is Starting (P.13)” silently, then chorally

*      Vocabulary Graphical Organizer

*      Centers

*   Vocabulary (Me)-Use a dictionary to separate into A-H,  I-P, Q-Z & identify which part vocabulary words would be found in

*   Comprehension (Linda)-Listen to “David’s New Friends” on CD-ask story comprehension questions.

*   Computers-website-

Math

Objectives:

*      To read and write numbers to 100

Materials: Hundreds chart, handkerchief, 100s grids

NCTM Standards:  1,7,8,9

*      MadMinutes

*      Flashcards

*      Lesson 1.4-Blindfold students and they choose a card in hundreds chart

*      Write the number they choose in 3 different ways

*      Pages 9-10

*      Use grids to write #0-100

Science

Objectives:

*      Describe seeds and their origins.

Materials:  CD, song copied onto chart paper, apple

National Standards:  11,12,13,26,27,30,31,32,33,34,35,36,39,42,46-49,50,57

*      Introduction:  Riddles to identify parts of plant (22A)

*      Song-“The Fruit and the Flower”-listen to CD and point to words on chart paper

*      Read pages 30-33

*      Cut open an apple and discuss seeds found inside

*      Give each child a peanut-identify different parts

HOMEWORK:  Read weekly story, “David’s New Friends,” with an adult.

Language Arts

Objectives:

*      Segment words and sounds

*      Use clues from the story to complete a cloze activity

*      Use comprehension strategies

*      Write a bio poem

Materials:  whiteboards, markers, erasers, Vocabulary cloze overhead, Vocabulary tests, 3 sticks for each group identifying:  Ricky Reader, Quacky Questioner, Alvin Answerer, Bio poem example, outlines

Standards:  1.6.B.1, 1.6.B.3, 1.1.C.6, 1.1.C.12, 1.3.B, 1.1.D.1, 1.3.A, 1.3.F

*      Phonics (whiteboards, markers, erasers)-Segment words and count number of sounds in each word, build words (ex. fat to fit)

*      Oral Vocabulary

*      Vocabulary-Use overhead transparency to complete cloze activity.

*      Vocabulary Test

*      Comprehension-Work in groups of 3-Roles include:  Ricky Reader, Quacky Questioner, Alvin Answerer

*      Writing-Bio poems-model and show my example, give outline to complete

Math

Objectives:

*      To understand that numbers can be represented in a variety of equivalent forms.

Materials: whiteboards, markers, erasers

Standards: 1,2,6,8,9,10

*      MadMinutes

*      Flashcards

*      Lesson 1.5-Give each group whiteboard, marker, eraser-write a number on the board and students write one way to show that number (ex. draw pictures using tens and ones, ___tens ___ones, 10+0).

*      Pages 11,12 in math BIG books

Objectives:  Identify the stages in a plant’s life cycle.

Materials:  large chart paper, Computer/projector

Standards:  8,9,25,30,31,34,35,48,49,50,62,63,64,65,67,78,80,81

*      Read pages 34,35

*      Draw life cycle of a seed on large chart paper

Social Studies

Objectives:

*      Blend words and build new words

*      Add –s to show plurals

*      Complete assessments in comprehension, grammar, and spelling

Materials:  whiteboards, markers, erasers, construction paper, lined paper

Standards:  1.6.D.2, 1.1.C.2, 1.1.C.6, 1.1.C.12, 1.1.E, 1.5.F.1

*      Phonics (whiteboards, markers, erasers)-practice blending words, substitute letters to build new words, adding –s to show more than one

*      Oral Vocabulary

*      Spelling Post-test

*      Silently read, “David’s New Friends” independently

*      “David’s New Friends” Comprehension Test

*      Writing-Transfer Bio poem outlines to final copy

Math

Objectives:

*      To use the problem solving skill make reasonable estimates to solve problems.

Materials:

NCTM Standards: 1,6,8,9

*      MadMinutes

*      Flashcards

*      Lesson 1.6-Fill containers with marbles-estimate each one to identify whether it’s ones, tens, or hundreds.

*      Pages 13,14 in math BIG books

 

Science

Objectives:

*      Recognize that plants look and act like their parent plants.

*      Describe ways that plants change to meet their needs.

Materials:  Song “The Cycle of Life”, 4 beans, paper towel, plastic bag

Standards: 24,35,40,41,43,47,61

*      Introduction-Song “The Cycle of Life”-listen on CD and point to words on chart paper

*      Place 4 bean seeds in a plastic bag with moist paper towel-predict what will happen and why.

*      Read pages 40-49

Social Studies

*      Me-Boxes
