Story: Visitors from Space

 

Weekly Objectives:

 

Introduce vocabulary and build story background.

 

Listen to and read story selection for enjoyment, understanding, and fluency.

 

Identify story elements: setting, character, plot.

 

To develop effective note-taking techniques.

 

S.S.: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7

 

Activities:  Introduce vocab and build story background.    Complete PB –128. Listen to story on tape and begin discussion. Read “Sam, Bangs, and Moonshine” for a story retell.  Complete characters and setting.

 

Evaluation:  Student work; assign PB - 133

 

Objective: To multiply by 3’s – 10’s.

 

To apply the problem solving skill make generalizations to solve problems.

 

S.S.: 2.9.5.H

 

Activities:    Read, discuss and do p. 450 – 451.  Complete PW117 w/class. Practice times tables in small groups.

 

Evaluation: Student work; practice times tables

Spelling Lesson #30

 

Weekly Objectives: 

Practice using correct cursive writing form.

 

Demonstrate mastery of spelling lesson words.

 

Demonstrate understanding of adverbs that compare.

 

Activities: Review spelling strategies for lesson. 

 

Introduce concept of adverbs that compare. Complete GPB –103 for a grade.  Introduce adverbs that compare.

 

Evaluation:  Grade GPB - 103

Weekly Objectives:  To explore different types of maps.

 

To understand the basics of maps and of reading maps.

 

Activities:  Learn about intermediate directions.  Do map p. 8 and 9.

Activities:    Read story selection w/5th grade buddy.  Listen to buddy’s story and discuss.  Check PB – 133. Continue to work on story retell.  Complete problem, solution and story events.

 

 Evaluation:  Observe buddies and check story retell progress

Objective:  To estimate and measure volume.

Activities: Read, discuss and do p. 452 – 455.   Practice times tables in small groups. 

 

Evaluation: Student work; assign p. 456 and 457 and study Chapter 22

 

Activities: 

Complete PB – 135 to reinforce spelling strategies.

 

Reinforce concept of adverbs that compare.  Do PB – 134.  Write a rough draft letter to parents for our special books.

Activities:    Read story aloud w/class and discuss story elements.  Complete PB – 129 w/a buddy.  Complete PB – 132 w/class.  Complete story retells.

Objective: Demonstrate understanding of concepts, skills, and problem solving presented in Chapter 22.

 

Activities: Check p. 456 and 457.   Administer times tables quizzes on mix and 9’s and 10’s. Administer Chapter 22 Test.

 

Evaluation: Grade times tables quizzes and Chapter 22 Test

Activities:

Play a game to reinforce spelling strategies.

 

Complete GPB – 104 w/class.  Continue to work on letter to parents.  Write a final copy in books.

 

Evaluation:  Student work; check progress on books

 

Activities:  Review intermediate directions.  Introduce using a map grid.  Do p. 10 and 11.  Learn about distance on a map.  Do p. 12 and 13.

Objective:  To describe and extend geometric patterns.

 

To write a rule to describe a visual pattern.

Activities: Read, discuss and do p. 468 – 475.   Practice times tables in small groups.  

 

Evaluation: Student work; assign PW119

 

Activities: Complete GPB – 105 and 106.   Draw a picture of parents in special books.

 

 

Evaluation:  Student work and check progress on books.

Activities:  Learn about scale on a map. Do map p. 14 and 15.  Draw a rough draft map of our classroom.

 

Evaluation: Student work; complete a good copy of classroom map

Day 4 GYM

 

 

Activities: Read story selection independently and complete Comprehension Quiz independently for a grade.

 

Evaluation: Grade Comprehension Quiz

Objective: To describe and extend number patterns, and to identify missing numbers in a number pattern.

 

To use a pattern unit or a rule to make a pattern.

 

S.S.: 2.8.3.A.

 

Activities: Check PW119.  Do PW120.  Read, discuss and do p. 476 – 479.  Begin a pattern of their own.  Administer multiplication quiz on 11’s and 12’s and a cumulative quiz on 0’s – 12’s.

 

Evaluation: Grade times tables quizzes

Activities: Administer Lesson #30 Test. Go over final spelling test for next week.

 

Complete a grammar quiz on own for a grade.

  

 

Evaluation:  Grade quiz and Spelling Test

Activities:  Use a map scale.  Do map p. 16 – 19.  Share classroom maps.  Begin a map of our play area.
