Shapes:

Different techniques are being used with shapes-

Playground:

Students will have a discussion about activies they like to do out on the playground. Then we will reenact those activies in the classroom and “freeze” the students so as they can see the bent arms and legs of one another. Then they must draw themselves playing outside with movement. Hopefully we will see a change in the student’s scheme.

Fabric pocket:

A starter sewing project for young grades will be done by third graders. First students will create their own flower stencil . the stencil will be used on their selection of coloered felt. Button will be sewn into place on stenciled felt. The felt will be folded to make a pocket then student will sew edges to finish the pocket. Holder will be hot glued by teacher at the end.

Foreshorten person:

Using their own hands and a pattern for feet the students will trace on large white paper. Then students will add the rest of body legs, arms and face. This is forced foreshorten and looks kinda crazy. Students may color with colored pencil or crayons.

Chinese box:

Students will create there own stamp for the decorating of the box. Students will glue two pieces of paper to strengthen the construction of the box. Using a pattern of the orgami form students trace. After many prints of their self created stamp have been made students will fold and glue box together.

Mask; (pending)

Students will be given partners (A/B). Students will watch demonstration and listen to safety concerns. A partner will have his/her own face sealed in plaster gauze and removed to harden. The second week B partner will have his/ her face done by A partner. Appending will be added to the sculpture. Tempera paint will be used on the mask. Final extra such as beads, yarn, wire, etc. can be added to the mask.
