Period 7     Days 1-3-5 / 2-4-6

Choral music objectives based on state and national standards.

    The student will be able to:

           1.   demonstrate correct posture for singing

            2.   employ abdominal breathing

            3.   sing with improved tone quality

            4.   amplify the voice using natural resonators (head, mouth chest)

            5.   sing with proper diction (vowels, consonants, diphthongs)

            6.   blend voice with other voices in the group

            7.   read the musical score

            8.   sing with proper dynamics, phrasing, articulation and style

            9.   correctly interpret the director's hand movements

            10. demonstrate proper stage etiquette

            11. exhibit self-discipline throughout the rehearsal process

REHEARSAL STRATEGIES

Warm-ups

    Do physical warm-ups using the CD Graceland #6  "You Can Call Me Al"

    Do vocal warm-ups from The Complete Choral Warm-up Book by Althouse

         and Robinson

 

Finals:  Two hour delay schedule.

 

Audition 8th grade students for acceptance into Senior High Concert Choir.   

 

ASSESSMENT

    1.  Monitor through listening.  Diagnose problem and adjust.

    2.  Teacher observation of individual students.

 

 

 

Senior Concert Choir

Grade 8 Music Expo

Period 6     Days 2-4-6

OBJECTIVES

The student will be able to:

    1.  identify the Baroque Era as the years 1600-1750

    2.  define the the music terms baroque, fortepiano, concerto, and patron

    3.  name the three most famous composers of the Baroque:  Vivaldi, J S Bach,

            and Handel

    4.  discuss some of the people, events, places, happenings of the Baroque

    Music notebook, Accent on Composers, by Jay Althouse

    Classical Connections to United States History by Ellen Wilmeth

   Video:  Beethovan:  The Sound and the Fury by Biography Channel

    The Discover Series posters, Baroque

TUESDAY

        Go over information on the Baroque composer, Antonio Vivaldi.

        Review for exam on the Baroque era.

 

THURSDAY

        Give exam on the Baroque Era.

        Show the video Beethoven:  The Sound and the Fury by Biography Channel.
